North Star Pride/Henderson Chapter on the
move
The Project Lift weightlifting team, sponsored by William Hawkins Youth
Ministries, a chapter of North Star Pride, sent an 11-member team to the
Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics Powerlifting Championships July 28-30 in
The meet featured about 100 young people ages 5-23 from all over the
country. Project Lift was able to bring home a fourth place team finish. The
winning team was from
The youth utilized the Hotel pool to relax and socialize the day before
their meet. Some of the youth, their
families, and the coaches made it to
The Project Lift youth team, competing in its first full power meet (squat, bench and deadlight), was able to gather six first place, two second place, two third, and one fourth place finishes and set some world records.
The team was coached by William Hawkins, Harold Davis, Lewis Brodie, Bobby
Jones, General Marrow, William Marrow, Jae Joyner, Jeanette Bell, Stephen Jones
and Leontyne Marrow. By virtue of its performance, Project Lift has received an
automatic bid to the 2007 AAU Junior Olympics in
